Pursuing brand equity

Driving to a breakfast meeting early this morning, I noticed a line of over 100 outside the cellular phone store.  Yes, the frenzy over the new iPhone still creates rock star status. Consumers braved hot pavement, four hour waits, and a $200 price tag…for a phone.

What drives people to do this?  Apple’s brand equity is amazing. So, I wondered how to translate that for you. Differentiation in a sputtering market is key along with exceptional customer service and an outstanding product or program.

Then there is the whole incentive culture often left fallow. We need to create a workforce that has been given a transfusion of positive “YES” attitude followed by uncompromised execution—this is perhaps the Holy Grail, often falling by the wayside.

Incentive programs, recognition, at-a-girls, whatever you can do to improve delivery is paramount. It is so easy to point out what employees are doing wrong that we often forget it is more important to catch them doing things right--then celebrate them.  It doesn’t cost much to single out someone and recognize excellence.

To that end, I celebrate the staff of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.  My team has the can do attitude and creativity, making an exponential difference.  Thank you Team for all your work so far this year and what is left to imagine.
