ALT's Peter Merritt Day on April 30th ...
Support Local Garden Shops!

The Merritt Neighborhood Fund was established in 1999 by the Aquidneck Land Trust ("ALT") to honor the late Peter M. Merritt, the organization's visionary president emeritus, for his decade of leadership. The purpose of the Fund is to provide modest grants to Aquidneck Island's neighborhood and community groups to support their preservation of small parks, playgrounds and other natural spaces in order to strengthen their community's identity and character and to model the ethic of land conservation and stewardship through community volunteerism.

Some past funded projects have included the following: the Friendship Garden at the Edward King House, the Middletown Methodist Church Community Garden, the Zen Garden at Rogers High School, beautification of the playground in Island Park, landscaping at the Potter League, tree planting for the Off Broadway Neighborhood Association and the Learner's Journey Community Garden Initiative.

On Saturday, April 30th, several local garden shops will support ALT by donating a percentage of their sales to the Merritt Neighborhood Fund.  We ask that you go and support these businesses which will aid ALT in doing it's time-sensitive work in the community!
